The fantasy games, stories, plays, and movies have always bagged a considerable amount of attention from the people who like mythical and paranormal occurrences. Due to this, we have always seen a remarkable increase in the fans and number of mystical games. Various companies have developed a number of games on this theme like Prince of Persia series, World of Warcraft, Might and Magic, Fate and many more which became popular due to their story mode and the magic spells used in them. But some rookie users as well as occasional players may like to play short and simple games with this theme. Spectromancer v.1.2 is one such game.
Spectromancer by Apus Software and Three Donkeys LLC is a shareware card game. The interface of the game has been designed on a mystical theme which makes it intuitive to guess the real element of this game. The colour, graphics and sound of the game are fairly good to make it a more involving game. The player basically competes against other mages in a magic duel casting magical spells and summoning mythical creatures. Each player is provided with 20 cards chosen randomly at the beginning of each duel. The cards consist of five elements used by each magic during the duel: Air, Water, Fire, Earth and special element of the mage. These cards have different function and mana cost. On each turn, the player uses a single card and gets single mana in each element. The game can be played on both single as well as multiplayer mode. In the single player mode, player proceeds through a world full of magic by assimilating different cards in duels. In multiplayer gameplay, the player faces a stiff competition from number of online players and can view the high scores list from time to time in order to assess his performance in contrast with other players.
Overall, Spectromancer v.1.2 is a nice game for people who like to play card games and have an added mythical attraction. Hence, it receives a score of four rating points on the scale of five.
